Seeds of Hope – Write and Plant

In May 2021, we piloted the “Seeds of Hope-Write and Plant” program, donating 1,500 sprout pencils to 20 schools all over Cyprus that fall under the DRA.SE zones. The primary goal has been to create a school garden and raise children’s awareness of modern plant species through activities with a practical/experiential reflection and in an environment where they will have the joy of creating and shaping it.

To date, over 3,000 sprout pencils have been donated to 50+ schools across the island. The pencils contain 7 different “Mediterranean” seeds such as basil, mint, cherry tomatoes, aubergine, carrot, lavender and sunflower. Along with the operation of vegetable gardens, children are also properly educated about the necessity of recycling and sustainability due to climate change.

The program is supported by the Office of the Commissioner for the Environment and the Cyprus Youth Organization.
